Hap Ki Do
The Korean Art of Self Defense, Hap Ki Do is considered a "soft" style of Martial Art ; where the practitioner diverts or suppresses an attacker's flow of energy peacefully, allowing him to use the attackers own power against him. Not only is the attack redirected, it is also turned back against the attacker and follows through with offensive techniques, which may control his violence or render him incapable of further antagonistic actions. Through the use of leverage on certain skeletal joints and knowledge of pressure points, very little strength is needed to overcome an opponent. Moreover, Hap Ki Do is a discipline of coordination, a way of strengthening the mind and body so that he or she will emerge as a more fully integrated human being.
In addition to effective hand-to-hand techniques, our classes also focus on the importance of tumbling and physical conditioning that improves balance, flexibility, quickness, and strength. Most importantly, the consistent practice of Hap Ki Do builds confidence through physical and mental discipline. The immediate aim of Hap Ki Do is, of course, the welfare of the one practicing the art. Not only will skills in self-defense be attained, but also a strengthening of the spirit that contributes to the development of a strong character and lasting mental and physical well being.
