Grandmaster Jang

At the age of 6, Grandmaster Darim Jang began studying the Martial Arts.  While attending elementary, middle, and high schools, he participated in national tournaments throughout Korea, winning many of them, and was a member of the first class to graduate from Tae Chun Athletic High School. Athletic high schools incorporate intensive competitive activities into their curriculum, and all students that attend these schools are top scholarship athletes in their field.  As part of his studies, Grandmaster Jang spent four hours a day, Monday through Saturday, practicing Tae-Kwon-Do, Hap-Ki-Do, Kum-Do, Shi-Rum, and many other styles of Martial Arts.  After high school, Grandmaster Jang attended Dan-kook University in Seoul, Korea on a scholarship where he majored in Physical Education.  There, he competed as a member of the university's Tae-Kwon-Do team.  After his first year of college, he entered the Korean army for 3 years.  In the military, he served as a Tae-Kwon-Do instructor in boot camp.  After serving in the military, he went back to school to finish his degree and spent one year as the President of the Student Athletic Council.

After graduation, Grandmaster Jang served as the President of Athletic Committee for the Korean Special Olympics.  In 1987, he traveled to Notre Dame University in South Bend, Indiana with the Special Olympics. Later that year, Grandmaster returned to America as an exchange instructor for a self-defense course offered by the Department of Physical Education at the University of Texas.  Grandmaster left Texas in 1989 to attend graduate school in the Physical Education department at the University of Louisville.  Grandmaster Jang in the Rockies

In 1990, Grandmaster Jang relocated to Leonia, NJ, where he opened the Day-Han Martial Arts Academy. Under his instruction, over 100 students gained their Black Belts and several of his students continued on to become Masters. Three of these Masters are now running the Day-Han Academy. For several years, Grandmaster Jang and many of the Black Belt students spent their Saturdays volunteering, teaching martial arts to disadvantaged kids and families in Harlem.

Grandmaster Jang made his most recent move in 1998, and opened DARIMAR Martial Arts in Gahanna on March 1, 1999.  Over 1,500 students, including over 100 1st degree Black Belts and seven 2nd degree Black Belts have been trained in Gahanna by Grandmaster Jang.  DARIMAR has recently expanded and moved to a state of the art facility, 12,000 sq. ft. in area, at 971 N. Hamilton Rd. in Gahanna, OH. We invite you to join us at DARIMAR to witness the best in martial arts!
